This month we’re welcoming Luke to the EGL Vaughan team as our Engineering Manager. Luke comes from a background in both engineering and sales, so he is well versed in the industry, and knows exactly what our customers want and need when they come to us.
He’s thrown himself head-first into getting to know everything there is about what we do, CNC Precision Engineering, our customers’ requirements, and where we can make even more improvements to make sure EGL Vaughan delivers fast, efficient, and quality service in all that we do.
We’re thrilled to have him as an integral part of the team, and are excited about the skills and ideas he brings with him.
We asked him to introduce himself with a few answers to our questions below (although we’re sure you’ll be speaking to him very soon!)
1. Tell us a bit about yourself, What’s your background?
After studying for a degree in Mechanical Engineering, I went on to study for a master’s degree in Industrial Digitalisation, which focused on Industry 4.0 and emerging technical advances in manufacturing & engineering.
Whilst studying for my master’s, I took part in a digital technology internship with Made Smarter, where I worked part-time (and eventually full-time) at a machine shop in Ashton, helping them to implement their new Additive Manufacturing machines and other digital technologies within the business, including a shop floor digitalisation system and help with CAD/CAM.
During this time, I also learned all things CNC, from programming to setting and running a range of different machines. I was also named on KTN’s Top Young People Making Manufacturing Smarter list.
After a short spell on the sales side of things, I landed where I am now.
2. What’s your role going to include at EGL Vaughan?
My role at EGL is to work alongside Chris to help with production & help to grow the business. This includes aspects like quoting, CAD/CAM programming, designing systems to improve production efficiency etc.
3. What excites you about what we’re doing?
I have always liked making things and I found that my passion is being involved in a manufacturing environment, making things that make other things work. EGL is a small business with great potential, so being able to help grow the business whilst helping out more people is really rewarding.
4. What changes and improvements can our customers expect now that you’re here?
Other than a happy Northerner on the other end of the phone, I’m hoping to speed up our quoting process using CAD/CAM, so customers should be able to see a quicker turnaround on quotes.
5. Tell us a random fact about yourself:
I’ve completed a lap of the Imola Grand Prix track on a pedal bike.
